Beautifully made Eagle Kachina!

The Eagle or Kwahu Kachina appears in the Kiva Dances in March, or during the Powamu Ceremony. His dance resembles the eagle's motion of flight. The dance is also a prayer for more eagles. Each dancer is pressured to imitate every step and cry of the eagle to absolute perfection. Eagles are honored guests among the Hopis and they are given gifts just as the Hopi children are. At midsummer, they are ceremonially smothered and plucked of all their plumage. Although Third Mesa portrays their Eagle Kachina with an all black body, Second Mesa's Eagle Kachina has a yellow and red body. Birds in general, have always played an important role in the Hopi ceremonies and tradition.

Joseph Duwyenie is an experienced carver. Carving is a family tradition that was taught to him by his father, and like his father, he has passed it on to his sons. Joeseph started to carve in 1970. He has a distinctive style in the way that he carves the feathers and wings of his Kachinas. He also likes to change the style of colors on each Kachina that he makes. Joe enjoys the time he takes to carve and paint each Kachina doll..

This Kachina Doll is made of cottonwood root and is signed on the bottom of the base "Joe Duwyenie". If you would like to see a picture of the signature on the bottom of the base or more pictures of the doll please let us know. We are PROUD to bring you another amazing Kachina Doll! Navigating around computers doesn't come as easy to me as it does to other people these days. I find it complicate to use website to order things online on most websites. This website made it easy for me to find the exact piece that i was looking to buy, as well as complete my order.

I have been collecting Kachina Dolls since the 90s. Its great to find a website that has such a diverse collection at such reasonable prices. Not many places online sell such rare and unique pieces of art, so upon finding your website it was like striking gold. Your descriptions are true to the dolls that i have purchased and its nice to see that you also provide the legend behind each one.

    Bringing the Southwest to me!
Posted by Laurie Jenkins | Reviewing Kachina-Dolls.com | Posted on
I grew up in New Mexico with my grandparent where southwest spirit was everywhere. Since then i grew up and got married and had my own family and moved to Maine. Kachina-Dolls helps me build a little of that Southwestern spirit in my own home and even though were states apart, their spirit is still here with me every day.

From their easy to use website, to their large selection of Native American kachina dolls, and their carefully packaged products, this website is far ahead of other sites that I have been on. Thank you for conducting your business with the customer in mind!
